Nutramax Laboratories, Inc. Products Obtain NSF Certification
Cosamin®ASU and Cosamin®DS are Certified for Sport™
Edgewood, Maryland – Nutramax Laboratories, Inc. today announced premium joint health supplements Cosamin® ASU and Cosamin® DS have been Certified for Sport™ by NSF International. In addition to the NSF Certified for Sport™, Nutramax Laboratories has also obtained GMP Certification and Dietary Supplement Certification from NSF International, a not-for-profit public health and safety organization that tests and certifies nutritional supplements and a variety of food and water products.
NSF International's Dietary Supplement Certification program verifies that what is on the label is in the bottle and that the product does not contain undeclared ingredients or unacceptable levels of contaminants. NSF International's Certified for Sport™ (athletic banned substances certification program) builds on the Dietary Supplement Certification program by including an additional layer of screening that verifies the product does not contain banned or prohibited substances.
MLB, the MLB Player’s Association, NFL, the NFL Player’s Association, PGA, LPGA, and the CCES (Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport) recognize NSF International's ISO 17025 accredited Certified for Sport™ program to help verify the products their athletes use.*
The certification requirements include:
- Contaminant review: to verify there are no undeclared ingredients present or unacceptable levels of contaminants in the product
- Label claim review: to verify what's on the label is in the bottle
- Toxicology review: to verify product formulation and marketing claims
- Facility inspection: two manufacturing facility audits to verify the products are produced in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
- Banned substance screening: to verify they are free of prohibited substances on World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) list, NFL, MLB and NCAA prohibited substances lists
- Ongoing monitoring: to verify compliance via periodic auditing and testing.
NSF International's GMP Certification enables dietary supplement manufacturers to become independently certified by NSF International as complying with GMP requirements as listed in the only American national standard for dietary supplements, NSF/ANSI Standard 173. These requirements are consistent with the published U.S. Food and Drug Administration's GMP regulation for dietary supplements as defined in 21 CFR § 111.
“NSF Certified for Sport program includes label claim testing/verification, contaminant testing and banned substance screening for over 140 analytes as well as GMP audits of the manufacturing facility. Nutramax Laboratories’ Cosamin ASU and Cosamin DS met all of these requirements in order to earn certification from NSF International and bear the NSF mark on their product labels,” said Ed Wyszumiala, General Manager of NSF International’s Dietary Supplements Certification programs.
“Nutramax Laboratories, Inc. is proud to obtain the NSF Certified for Sport, GMP Certification and the NSF Dietary Supplement Certification,” added Dr. Troy Henderson, Vice President of Nutramax Laboratories Inc. “With these certifications from NSF International, our customers can be sure that Nutramax Laboratories’ Cosamin DS and Cosamin ASU are certified to meet label claims and produced in accordance with the strict guidelines of NSF.”
In addition to using the NSF mark on product labels, Nutramax Laboratories can use the NSF mark on its websites and in other marketing materials to highlight their certification efforts.
