Introduction, Materials & Methods
The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of Primo in combination with MACRO-SORB foliar on color, height and foliar yield of Creeping Bentgrass. This study was conducted on a mature stand of creeping bentgrass at the Valentine Turfgrass Research Center, Penn State University, University Park, PA. The treatments consisted of an untreated check, Primo at 0.5 oz/1000 ft2 + Urea at 0.2 lb. N/1000 ft2, Primo alone at 0.25 oz/1000 ft2, and Primo at 0.25 oz/1000 ft2 + MACRO-SORB foliar at 2 oz/1000 ft2. These treatments were applied on May 30, June 13, June 27, July 11, and July 27, 2001. The test site was maintained similar to that of a golf course fairway with respect to irrigation, fertilization, and mowing.
Results
Only slight variation in color ratings was found throughout the duration of the study. Primo at 0.5 oz/1000 ft2 with 0.2 lb. N/1000 ft2 from urea and Primo at 0.25 oz/1000 ft2 + MACRO-SORB foliar at 2 oz/1000 ft2 tended to have slightly improved color compared to the untreated turf (Figure 1). With regard to height measurements, turf treated with half rate of Primo (0.25 oz/1000 ft2) + MACRO-SORB foliar at 2 oz/1000 ft2 was consistently as short or shorter than turf treated with Primo at 0.5 oz/1000 ft2 + Urea at 0.2 lb. N/1000 ft2 and Primo at 0.25 oz/1000 ft2 (Figure 2). With respect to fresh weight yields, turf treated with Primo at 0.5 oz/1000 ft2 + Urea at 0.2 lb. N/1000 ft2 had significantly less yield than untreated turf on 7/2 and 7/10. Turf treated with Primo alone at 0.25 oz/1000 ft2, had less yield than untreated turf on 6/19, 7/13, and 8/7, while turf treated with the same rate of Primo plus MACRO-SORB foliar at 2 oz/1000 ft2 had significant less yield than untreated turf on 6/5, 6/19, 7/2, 7/10, 7/17, 7/23, and 8/7 (Figure 3).
Conclusion
“It appears from this experiment that using half rate of Primo in combination with MACRO-SORB foliar is equal to or more efficacious than using full label rate.” Dr. T. L. Watschke.
