Evaluation of Trimec Classic Components with MACRO-SORB foliar for Broadleaf Weed Control
Dr. T. L. Watschke & J. A. Borger
This study was conducted at Penn State University, University Park, PA on a mixed turfgrass stand consisting of fine fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, and perennial ryegrass with a heavy infestation of dandelion. Treatments were applied on September 12, 1997. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with 3 replications and a plot size of 3 x 15 ft. Treatments were applied on September 12, 1997 and percent control of dandelion was rated on November 10, 1997.

Results and Discussion
The addition of MACRO-SORB® foliar to half rates of Trimec Classic and its components did result in comparable control of dandelion to results obtained with full rates of these herbicides alone. Dandelion control of half rate of Trimec Classic + MACRO-SORB® foliar was lower than the full rate of this herbicide alone; however, no significant difference was observed between these two treatments. Interestingly, half rate of 2,4-D + MACRO-SORB® foliar provided a slightly better control than the full rate of 2,4-D alone. Weed control of full rates of the other two components of Trimec Classic, MCPP and Dicamba, and half rates with MACRO-SORB® foliar was not different (Fig. 1). Both MCPP and Dicamba are weak with regard to dandelion control when applied alone. Other studies are underway to further evaluate the effect of MACRO-SORB® foliar on the effectiveness of herbicides for broadleaf control.
