Avmacol - Sulforaphane Production System

What is Avmacol®?

Avmacol® is an innovative supplement that supports sulforaphane production by providing glucoraphanin and an active myrosinase enzyme via our Sulforaphane Production System™.

Sulforaphane stimulates your body’s natural detoxification process for certain environmental threats found in the air you breathe, the food you eat, and the water you drink. Research has shown sulforaphane also supports the body’s defenses against oxidative stress and cell damage.*

  • Why Is Sulforaphane So Important?
    • Every day you are exposed to a barrage of chemicals that are not naturally found in your body and which can take a toll on your overall health and wellness. Thankfully, your body has a natural detoxification system to help get rid of harmful substances that you are exposed to in the environment, or from household products and even the food you eat. Sulforaphane is a phytochemical Biologically active compounds found in plants and vegetables, such as crucifers. that stimulates your natural detoxification system. Your detoxification system has 2 phases:

First, when chemicals enter your body, Phase 1 detoxifying enzymes begin to process them into metabolitesAny compound formed during the metabolic processing of chemicals created before the final end product., which may be potentially harmful. An easy way to imagine these metabolites is as broken pieces of glass with “rough edges.” These “rough edges,” if not processed further, can disrupt normal cell function.

Next, Phase 2 detoxifying enzymes change the potentially harmful metabolites into water-soluble compounds that can be easily excreted from your body.

Sulforaphane helps boost the production of important Phase 2 detoxifying enzymes, speeding up your body’s natural detoxification process, thereby helping to eliminate potentially harmful metabolites at a faster rate. If these metabolites remain in the body for too long they can potentially cause damage to DNA, proteins and lipids in your cells. Put simply, the more Phase 2 enzymes you have, the faster you can excrete harmful chemical compounds from your body.

  • The Importance of an Active Myrosinase Enzyme
    • Though it may seem complicated, the process of sulforaphane production can be broken down into one simple equation:

      Active Myrosinase Enzyme

An active myrosinase enzyme is essential for the conversion of glucoraphanin to sulforaphane. Without it, it may not be possible to reap sulforaphane's many health benefits, which is why you'll always find an active myrosinase enzyme in the Avmacol brand family.

Even though it is true that both glucoraphanin and the myrosinase enzyme can be found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower, there may not be enough of either compound to allow for adequate sulforaphane production. This can be due to seed quality, soil composition and many other factors. Additionally, the myrosinase enzyme can be destroyed during the cooking process. So while both glucoraphanin and the myrosinase enzyme can be found in the vegetables you eat, the ones you buy from the market are not necessarily reliable sources of either compound.

The Avmacol brand family contains both glucoraphanin and an active myrosinase enzyme, the essential ingredients needed to promote sulforaphane production.*

  • How Avmacol® Works
    • Our Sulforaphane Production System™ supplies glucoraphanin and an active myrosinase enzyme which helps promote sulforaphane production in your body. As depicted in the diagram below, when sulforaphane enters your cells it allows for a master regulatorA protein that binds to specific regions of DNA which controls the expression of several other genes. In the case of NRF2, it induces the expression of several phase 2 enzymes., known as NRF2, to enter the nucleus and bind to DNA. This leads to an increase in the production of Phase 2 detoxifying enzymes so metabolites of certain environmental threats can be more quickly excreted from the body, minimizing their harmful risks.*
